Can the models fetch information on the web?

Yes, in three ways:

  • In the chat, the agent searches the web whenever you ask it to look something up or when the question is about current events, prices, dates or availability: “What is the latest version of Chrome?”, “Find the opening hours of the Louvre”. The answer cites its sources.
  • In Google Sheets, the =GPT_WEB formula fills cells with up-to-date facts from the web, on paid plans.
  • In the Chrome extension side panel, the agent reads the page you are on, including YouTube captions: “Summarize this page”, “Summarize this video with timecodes”.

Pages that require a login (LinkedIn profiles, Instagram, a private intranet) cannot be fetched by the web search. Open the page in your browser and ask the side panel about it instead.
