What the agent can do
The chat is a main agent that hands each request to a specialist for the Google app involved. Each specialist works through the Google APIs with the permissions you granted, so what it does is real: a document is edited in place, an email is sent, an event lands in your calendar. You can ask for several apps in one request, for example “find the Q3 report on my Drive, summarize it in a new doc and email the link to Ann”.
Everywhere
Section titled “Everywhere”| Capability | Examples |
|---|---|
| Web search | “What changed in the latest Chrome release?”, current prices, news, dates. |
| File search | Questions about the files you attached or mentioned with @. |
| AI images | “Generate an image of a watercolor fox”. Attach an image and ask for a change to edit it. |
| Stock images | “Find stock images of a mountain lake”. |
| Questions back | When a request is ambiguous or destructive, the agent asks you to choose before acting. |
| Current page (Chrome extension) | “Summarize this page”, “What are the key takeaways?” on any website. |
| YouTube (Chrome extension) | “Summarize this video with timecodes” on a video page, using its captions. |
Google Docs
Section titled “Google Docs”Create a document or convert a DOCX, read it, insert text or formatted Markdown (headings, lists, tables, images), replace or delete passages, insert tables and manage their rows, columns and merged cells, insert images, page and section breaks, dates, people and smart chips, headers, footers and footnotes, style text, paragraphs, sections and the document, add bullets, and work with comments and suggestions: list threads, comment on a passage, reply, resolve, propose a change as a suggestion, accept or reject suggestions.
Examples: “Summarize the document in five key points at the top”, “Translate the document to Spanish keeping the formatting”, “Draft an employment contract for a software developer”, “Turn the second section into a table”.
Google Sheets
Section titled “Google Sheets”Create spreadsheets and sheets, read and search values, write, update or append cells, apply formulas to a range or freeze them into values, insert, delete, move and resize rows and columns, copy and move ranges, find and replace, sort, remove duplicates, trim spaces, split text to columns, merge cells, set borders and formats, conditional formatting, data validation (dropdowns, checkboxes), filters, named and protected ranges, native tables, charts (insert, update, move, delete) and comments.
Examples: “Insert a table with the current stock prices of the top 5 S&P 500 companies”, “Make the selected range uppercase”, “Add a chart of revenue by month”, “Highlight the rows where the status is late”.
Google Slides
Section titled “Google Slides”Generate a whole deck: the agent asks you to pick a design from the template library (or a random one), plans every slide, writes a style guide, renders the slides and gives you the link while it works. You can then ask it to regenerate given slides or restyle the whole deck. It also edits existing presentations: add slides, shapes, images, videos, lines, tables and linked Sheets charts, insert or replace text, style text and shapes, reorder slides, group, align and layer elements, set alt text, and comment.
Examples: “Generate a slide deck on the Q3 2024 report”, “Translate the deck to French”, “Change slide 1 to a grey background with white text”, “Improve the text of slide 2 to make it more professional”.
The free plan generates up to 10 slides per deck. See GPT for Google Slides.
Google Drive
Section titled “Google Drive”Search files and shared drives, show a folder tree, read a file’s content, metadata, permissions and version history, create folders, copy, rename and move files, share them, merge files of the same type, and move files to the trash or restore them. Bulk deletions are done in two steps: the agent previews how many files match and asks you to confirm the count before anything is trashed.
Examples: “Find the Q3 budget on my Drive”, “Create a new document from the selected files”, “Organize my Drive by sorting files into folders”, “Trash all files named draft older than a year”.
Search messages and threads, read a message, a thread or several messages at once, create, update or delete drafts, send a new email or a reply, and manage labels on one or many messages. In a Gmail thread, the chat also offers reply suggestions.
Examples: “Find the emails that contain invoices for 2025”, “Draft a reply to the last email, polite but firm”, “Label every email from Acme as Clients”.
Google Calendar
Section titled “Google Calendar”List your calendars, find events by date range or keyword, create events with guests and reschedule them.
Examples: “Analyze my meetings this month”, “Create a meeting today at 5 pm with ann@example.com”, “Move my next event to tomorrow at 10”.
Google Tasks
Section titled “Google Tasks”List, create, update, move and delete tasks and task lists, and clear completed tasks.
Examples: “Add a task to send the invoice by Friday”, “Review my tasks due this week”.
Google Contacts
Section titled “Google Contacts”Look up names and email addresses from your contacts and the people you recently wrote to, so “email Ann” finds the right Ann.
Google Forms
Section titled “Google Forms”Create forms, add or change questions, sections, images and videos, turn a form into a quiz, collect emails, publish or close it, and read the responses.
Examples: “Create a feedback form for collecting product feedback”, “Analyze the responses of the last created form”.
Permissions
Section titled “Permissions”The agent only uses the Google permissions you accepted at sign-in. When a request needs one you have not granted, the chat shows a Grant access button for that permission. See Google account permissions.
Limits
Section titled “Limits”- A single request is capped at about $1 of model cost and at 200,000 input tokens on the free plan (500,000 on paid plans).
- Deck generation: 10 slides per deck on the free plan.
- Gmail reads at most 10 messages per batch call.
